This lesson is packed with resources! Two complete lessons included in this product! Honors & Standard classes. Choose the one right for your students.

The standard lesson is intended for a lower level chemistry class, physical science, or even middle school. In this lesson, students will learn to identify the basic equation for the five types of chemical reactions.

In the honors lesson, students will also identify the five basic types of chemical reactions, but for single replacement reactions, students will use an activity series table (included) to determine if the reaction will occur. Honors students will also use a solubility chart (included) to determine the precipitate product in a double replacement reaction. Also included are two activities for honor students for practice in using the solubility chart and activity series.

So, choose the lesson appropriate for your level of students, or if you’re like me, and have more than one prep, use them both!

I have included many demonstration suggestions appropriate for each type of chemical reaction.

All resources are Editable.

All resources are also Digital for use with Google Slides™. You will receive all of the links to the digital files located in Google Drive. The link will prompt you to make a copy for your Google Drive. If you use Microsoft 365 and not Google, no problem. Select the files that you want to move to Microsoft, and choose download. The files will download in a zip file. Open the zip file, and drag the files into Microsoft.

The digital Types of Chemical Reactions Self-Grading Quiz – honors & standard – is ready to go once you set the settings to your preferences with Google Forms™. The quizzes are also in an editable print format.

Lesson Objectives:
  • Identify the five types of chemical reactions: synthesis, decomposition, single replacement, double replacement, and combustion.
  • Predict products for each type of reaction.
Honors only objectives:
  • Use the activity series to determine whether a single replacement reaction will occur.
  • Use a solubility chart to determine the aqueous and precipitate product of a double replacement reaction.

***THIS LESSON IS INCLUDED IN TWO DIFFERENT BUNDLES***
