This quiz is included in the lab: States of Matter Ice Lab. If you don’t have time to do the lab, you can still use the quiz to assess learning after your lesson on the heating curve.
With this quiz, students will demonstrate mastery of reading a heating/cooling curve. There are 4 different heating/cooling curves and 10 questions.
A complete KEY is included.
Objectives:
- Practice reading a heating/cooling curve
- Identify points on the graph when kinetic energy is constant, and when it is increasing
- Describe what energy is used for during time of constant kinetic energy.
- Relate temperature, energy, and pressure to phases changes
Prior Knowledge:
- Understand the concepts of phases of matter and how they relate to energy
- A good understanding of phase changes related to energy changes, changes in attractive forces, and particle movement and arrangement
This quiz is appropriate for grades 9-12 chemistry, or physical science.
