In this lesson, students will use stoichiometry and the Ideal Gas Law to calculate values of products produced, or reactants used, in reactions at varying conditions. Reactions at standard conditions, STP, are reviewed at the first of the lesson.

I recommend this lesson for honors level students or higher.

If the level of your students or your curricular requirements are such that you want to use this lesson for standard level classes, I have included options for differentiating this lesson for the standard level. However, the content is such that I don't recommend it for standard classes.

Lesson Objectives:
  • Use stoichiometry and the Ideal Gas Law formula to calculate amounts of product formed or reactant used during reactions not at STP
  • Calculate amount of product formed or reactant used during reactions where limiting and excess reactant must be determined first.

Prior Knowledge:
Stoichiometry
Ideal Gas Law
Determining Limiting & Excess Reactant (Honors)
